What is Commercial HVAC Service?

Commercial HVAC service is the repair, replacement and installation of the air conditioning and heating that keeps a business building comfortable, often a rooftop package unit or several split systems.

A Broken AC Costs a Business More Than the Repair

When the AC goes out at home, you are uncomfortable. When it goes out at a business, customers walk out, employees can't focus and computers and stock start to suffer in the heat. In the Valley the AC runs most of the year, so that can happen in March as easily as August.

So the first job is finding the actual problem. A Cool Aid technician checks the unit, tells you what failed and what it costs to fix, and only then starts the work. If the fix is a part, we fix the part. You won't get talked into a new system to solve a bad capacitor.

What We Handle for Commercial Buildings

Commercial AC repair

Units that blow warm air, short cycle, freeze up or trip the breaker. Rooftop package units and split systems both, up to 20 tons, and any brand: Carrier, Bryant, Payne, Goodman, Rheem, Ruud, Daikin and the off brands too. The service call is free when you have us do the repair, and repairs carry a three month warranty on electrical parts.

Commercial AC installation and replacement

New systems sized to the building, not just matched to the old unit's tonnage. That matters when a space has been remodeled, split into more offices or filled with equipment that puts out heat. New installs carry a one year labor and ten year parts warranty.

Commercial heating

Many rooftop package units carry the heat too, gas or electric, in the same cabinet as the cooling. We repair and replace the heating side as well, so a cold January morning doesn't open with a lobby full of coats.

Indoor air quality

In-duct air purification that cleans the air as it moves through the system. Useful in offices, waiting rooms and any space where a lot of people share the same air all day.

The Buildings We Work On

Most of our commercial calls come from offices and business suites, restaurants and drive thrus, churches and retail stores. We also look after units for some apartment complexes and trailer parks, where one owner or manager has a lot of systems to keep running.

Property managers and general contractors can call with the address and the number of units. We usually have a quote to you the same day.

Rooftop Units Are Their Own Kind of Job

A rooftop replacement is planned around more than the unit. We look at whether the new unit fits the existing roof curb, how a crane gets to it, whether the electrical service can carry it and, for gas heat, how the gas line connects.

Most rooftop installs take a full day. Because the old unit comes off before the new one goes on, we go over timing with you on the site visit so the swap lands on the day that hurts your business least. If a unit is near the end of its life, plan the replacement in the spring, before the summer rush, instead of waiting for it to fail in July.

When We Can Get It Fixed

Commercial service calls run on weekdays. If the part is on our truck or at a Valley distributor, the repair usually gets done the same day. If the part has to be ordered, we finish the job when it comes in, and we tell you that on the first visit so you can plan around it.

We don't take after hours or weekend commercial calls. Most parts distributors are closed then, so a tech on your roof Saturday night often can't finish the job anyway. If a unit goes out Friday evening, call Monday morning and we will tell you where you are on the schedule.

"He has been taking care of my air conditioning since 2020... Carlos is an amazing technician, he is extremely courteous, fast, honest, reliable... He doesn't try to sell you things you don't need, and he is always looking for ways to save you money."

Priscilla Ramirez

"Called about an issue we were having with our AC and he was able to resolve it over the phone at no charge. We asked if we needed any maintenance or cleaning on our unit and he was honest to tell us no."

Patricia Garza

"Carlos came on a Friday, gave us a quote and said he could install the next day. Arrived on the scheduled time and 45 minutes later we had A/C, for the quoted price. I had some other people do some work for us and the final price was well above the quoted price."

Commercial HVAC FAQs

Do you repair and install commercial AC, or only residential?

Both. Cool Aid repairs and installs air conditioning and heating for commercial buildings as well as homes, including rooftop package units and buildings with more than one unit.

What size commercial units do you work on?

Up to 20 tons. That covers the rooftop units on most offices, restaurants, churches and retail buildings in the Valley. We work on every brand, including Carrier, Bryant, Payne, Goodman, Rheem, Ruud and Daikin.

Do you take after hours or weekend commercial calls?

No. Commercial calls are weekdays. Most parts distributors are closed after hours and on weekends, so the job usually can't be finished then. Call first thing the next weekday and we will get you on the schedule.

How fast can I get a quote for a commercial job?

Usually the same day. That goes for business owners, property managers, apartment complexes and general contractors. Call with the address and the number of units.

Why is my commercial AC running but not cooling?

The usual causes are a clogged filter or dirty coil, a refrigerant leak, a failed capacitor or contactor, or a thermostat schedule that was changed. On rooftop units, a damper stuck open can pull hot outside air into the building. A technician has to check the unit to know which one it is, and we tell you what we found before any repair starts.

How long does a commercial rooftop installation take?

A rooftop installation usually takes a full day, longer than a typical home install. Crane access, the roof curb and the electrical work all add time. We go over the plan with you on the site visit so you know what day the unit goes up and how it affects your hours.

How long does a commercial rooftop unit last?

ASHRAE's equipment life table lists a median service life of about 15 years for rooftop air conditioners. Regular filter changes and coil cleaning help a unit reach that. A unit that keeps breaking down past that point is usually worth pricing out against a replacement.

What warranty comes with commercial work?

New installations carry a one year labor and ten year parts warranty. Repairs carry a three month warranty on electrical parts. The service call is free when you have us do the repair.

Are you licensed for commercial air conditioning work?

Yes. Cool Aid is licensed by the State of Texas under TACLA license TACLA35238R and insured. Texas requires that license for air conditioning work on homes and businesses alike, so it is worth checking for any contractor you hire.
